A couple of days ago I wrote about my friend Chris’s horrible experience with AirBnB in Los Angeles.
Well for my trip to Sydney for Mardi Gras, I was looking at hotels and they were all very expensive, somewhat unsurprisingly. Booking relatively late as well meant that there were few AirBnBs listed, however I got lucky with Jeff’s listing.
It was a beautiful two bedroom place, in Surry Hills, a reasonably short twenty minute stumble from most of the bars in and around Oxford Street.
Both bedrooms were proper full size rooms with double beds and there was a decent bathroom as well.
The kitchen had all the mod-cons and there was a small open plan dining area next to it as well. Being an end-of terrace house it was reasonably quiet and it even had a nice outdoor space at the back for eating breakfast.
If I was being ultra-picky, then it lacked the ubiquitous barbecue in the back garden, and there was just a kettle for coffee making in the mornings, no Nespresso or even coffee filter.
That said Jeff was very accommodating, offering an early check-in and being very relaxed about out check-out times as well.
So in my case, it definitely worked out and would certainly look into using the service in Sydney again.
